HARUM SCARES EM AGAIN

Harum with Jamie and Ben sailing again won the Saturday race with a commanding lead.
With a cold Westerly wind Jamie sailed up the middle while sisters Myelie and Chloe banged the left hand side. Jamie came out in front with Myelie second and James Payne third.Myelie who had forgotten her spinnaker lost out to James and Ed on nearly all the runs but came storming back to take second place behind Jamie

CADETS AT BARNT GREEN

The cadets had a really good prize giving where thanks to Ado`s mastery on the mike and a few glasses of wine the cadets raised over £660 pounds from members to go towards a new training boat for the club. This impromptu fund raising is a great way to add to funds.
Hope everyone was pleased with there prizes.
Erin and Lilly have started their Zone squad training with a weekend at Bristol, only 5 more to go James !
Myelie and Ben travelled to Brummie Land ,Barnt Green and sailed well in an half empty reservoir with lulls of no wind then gusts of 25 knots. After some good starts Myelie settled into a comfortable 15th overall which is a vast improvement on her previous results.
Sailing on Saturday weather permitting.

Saturday sailing is going down well for most, Sorry Tony and after the last two Sunday sailings have been cancelled it looks a good decision.Sorry again Tony
Barnt Green open this Saturday which Myelie will be attending , as it is the AGM and if we want The Nationals back at Torquay I think it is a good idea to have some sort of representation.Lucky Me!

RTYC Open Meeting 2006

Well done to Jamie and Ben in Harum Scarum for a convincing win at this year's Open. 4 wins out of 5 races tells its own story!

Thanks to everyone for their contribution, especially our friends from other clubs. See you next time!
Hope you like the reports and photos.

Here's the Herald Express's report of 16 September:

Here's the Yachts and Yachting report:

Cadet Open Meeting at Royal Torbay Yacht Club 9 - 10 September

Jamie Oaten and Ben Binmore in Harum Scarum were the clear winners of the Cadet Open Meeting hosted by the Royal Torbay YC on 9th/10th September.

The Easterly gales of the week dropped away to allow racing to start on schedule, but the 15 entries had to contend with a big swell in only light to moderate breezes. Oaten and Binmore excelled in the difficult conditions to show the fleet a clean pair of heels on both days, and with four firsts and a third, they dominated the event.

Second overall were Alex Horlock and Shaun Spring in Exe-Celerator from Exe, who just pipped James and George Payne in Unique from Royal Torbay, on count-back. Both Exe–Celerator and Unique sailed consistently well throughout the weekend and there was little between them, with the final ranking in doubt right up to the end of the final race. Alex and Shaun won the Katrina Johnson Memorial Cup for best visitor.

As usual, the racing at the top end of the fleet was close and competitive, although this year saw a heartening number of new helms competing for the first time, who all sailed well in the tricky conditions.

The racing was preceded by half a day’s training, and everyone enjoyed the now traditional fun evening and BBQ on Saturday. Thanks are due to Race Officer Bob Horne for setting first-class courses, and to sponsors www.sail-sport.com for providing excellent prizes to some of the newer teams.

Overall Results:

1 8515 Harum Scarum Jamie Oaten/Ben Binmore Royal Torbay
2 9382 Exe-Celerator Alex Horlock/Shaun Spring Exe
3 8240 Unique James Payne/George Payne Royal Torbay
4 7627 Vanguard Joss Haslam/Katie Kinver Parkstone
5 8538 Crème de la Crème Edward Jaffa/Charlie Payne Royal Torbay
6 8402 V3 Alex Frost/Kathryn Charleston South Cerney

Parkstone Indicator

Well done everyone!

The racing was really tough - the light winds, strong tides and huge courses were not easy to deal with, so everyone should be pleased with the experience they gained, even if the results were not as good as you wanted!

I hope you like the photos - here are some of my favourites...............

Action from Rutland 2006!

Well done to everyone who competed at Rutland. The conditions were very, very, difficult, with Rutland living up to its reputation for tough racing. I recorded 30 knots just before the start of Race 6, and you still all competed - wow!

No matter what your final result was, everyone should be really proud to have raced at Rutland 2006.

A masty accident!
